GUJRANWALA, Feb 11: The National Highway and Motorway Police claimed on Friday to have arrested after a brief encounter two robbers, who were scurrying after snatching cash and valuables from two traders near Gakkhar Town on the GT Road.

The police took into custody a motorcycle and illicit arms they possessed. Reports said traders Muhammad Khalil and Jamshed were coming back from Wazirabad after purchasing goods for their shops when two armed men stopped them near Gakkhar Town.

They snatched cash, mobile phone sets and other valuables, and drove away with their motorbike (GAJ-3376). On receiving information, two officials of the NH&MP chased the robbers, who resorted to firing.

As the police retaliated, the fleeing armed men slipped and fell on the ground and were handcuffed. The police recovered from the two, identified as Muhammad Amin and Shakeel Ahmad, residents of Sharifpura locality, the motorcycle and other booty.

They were handed over to the Gakkhar police for further investigation. Wazirabad DSP (motorway) Syed Aftab Alam appreciated the two officials, who brought the culprits to book, and recommended commendation certificates and cash for them.
