FAISALABAD, Feb 4: Five people were killed while several others sustained injuries in Basant- related incidents in different parts of the city on Friday.

In first incident, cousins Naeem, 14, and Raza, 7, residents of Jawalanagar, were hit by a train when they were trying to catch a stray kite on the railway track near Novelty overhead bridge. They died on the spot.

Mubashar Ali, 6, touched electricity wires while flying kites on the roof of his house in Gulistan Colony. Saeed was knocked down by a motorcycle-rickshaw while catching a kite in Ghulam Muhammadabad. The boy sustained head injuries and died on way to hospital.

Umar Din and Amjad Ali sustained serious injuries when they fell from the roof of their houses in Allama Iqbal Colony. Rizwan Ali in Railway Colony, Shahid Mushtaq on Satiana Road, Faisal Iqbal on Samundri Road and Amir Yaqoob on Sargodha Road sustained injuries when they were hit by vehicles when trying to catch stray kites.

GUJRANWALA: One person died and over two dozen injured during Basant festivities on Thursday night and Friday. The kite-flying competitions which began on Thursday evening continued for 24 hours.

Hassan died in aerial firing in Gondlanwala Road locality while about two dozens others sustained injuries after falling from rooftops and in accidents involving metal wire. They were rushed to the local DHQ hospital.

On the other hand police raided various places and arrested about 100 miscreants on the charge of aerial firing and playing of music at high volume. There were frequent power failures affecting Gepco installations.
