MULTAN, Feb 3: A tense situation cropped up on the Peerowal farms of the Punjab Seed Corporation on Thursday after tenants alleged that some officials had subjected their women to verbal onslaught.

The PSC tenants had gathered at Chak 83-85/10-R for their weekly meeting under the banner of the Anjuman Mazareen Punjab to discuss their organizational matters and chalk out future line of action to achieve proprietary rights against the lands of their tenancies.

It was alleged that some PSC officials passed derogatory remarks against women tenants when they passed by the corporation office to attend the AMP meeting. Upon this, the tenants started protest and staged a sit-in in front of the PSC office.

Later, a police contingent led by DSP Aftab Bhutta arrived there to defuse the tension. The protesters ended there sit-in on the assurance that a case would be registered against the PSC officials, who misbehaved with the women.

The Peerowal tenants of the corporation have been struggling along with the tenants of several other state-run agricultural and livestock farms, including the Okara Military Farms, to get ownership rights against the lands under their cultivation.
