KARACHI, Jan 26: A Lyari-based NGO claimed that a green belt being developed along the boundary wall of a government school had been converted into a garbage dumping ground.

A press release issued by the Voluntary Organization and Institute for Community Education (VIOCE) said that the under-developed green belt was to be constructed along the boundary wall of Saleh Mohammad Saradi Elementary and Secondary School (Singoo Lane), UC-9, in Lyari Town.

The work on the green belt was in progress as walls had been raised on both sides of the belt and grills were also erected. The NGO claimed that all of sudden it was abandoned and the space reserved for plantation had now been converted into a garbage dumping ground as the costly grills had been dismantled.

The NGO has urged the city government to order the department concerned to re-start work on the development of the green belt as it would give a pleasant look to the locality and the school.
