GUJRANWALA, Jan 23: Despite widespread rain throughout the Punjab, Eidul Azha was celebrated with religious fervour and zeal on Friday. In Gujranwala, Eid prayers were offered at about 200 places.

Prayer leaders and khatibs of mosques highlighted the philosophy of sacrifice and urged the faithful to mould their lives according to the teachings of the Holy Prophet. The district administration and police had taken steps to maintain law and order. Butchers charged high rates for sacrificing animals.

TOBA TEK SINGH: Less number of animals were sacrificed on Eid this year due to high prices of sacrificial animals. Middle class people faced hardships in purchasing animals, said animal traders. They claimed that the major reason of high price was massive purchase of animals by the traders of Afghanistan and the NWFP.

SIALKOT: Rain and extreme cold weather failed to diminish people's enthusiasm who celebrated Eidul Azha with religious fervour in both Sialkot and Narowal districts. No untoward incident was reported from anywhere.

SHEIKHUPURA: Eid prayers were offered at around 500 places in the district. The largest congregation was held in Company Bagh. Despite rain, people sacrificed animals and distributed meat among the deserving people and their relatives.

BAHAWALPUR: Eidul Azha was celebrated with religious fervour in the district. The biggest congregation was held at Markazi Eidgah, where a large number of followers offered Eid prayers amid tight security measures. Eid prayers were also offered at about a dozen open places, parks and mosques. Police personnel were deployed to avoid any untoward incident.
