LAHORE, Jan 18: The PML-N has demanded that the government should convene a special session of the National Assembly to discuss law and order problem in Balochistan, Gilgit and Waziristan.

The opposition parties are also considering to send a parliamentary delegation to Balochistan to have first hand information on the situation and express sympathy with the Baloch, said PML-N leader Khwaja Saad Rafiq at a press conference here on Tuesday.

MNA Pervaiz Malik, Northern Areas chief organizer Hafeezur Rahman and Syed Zaeem Qadri were also present. Mr Rafiq, who is an MNA, also opposed a military operation in Balochistan, and stressed that the issue must be resolved through talks instead of intimidating the political and national parties of the province.

He sought arrest of the culprits involved in the gang-rape of a lady doctor and the Pakistan Petroleum Limited official responsible for distorting facts of the incident.

He said continuation of freedom struggle in Kashmir was necessary and termed the Musharraf government's crackdown on Jihadi groups, unilateral cease fire on Kashmir front and least resistance on fencing of the Line of Control by India as "criminal steps."

Answering a question regarding greater opposition alliance against the Musharraf regime, the PML-N MNA said the alliance comprising the ARD, MMA and other parties should be formed in the first three months of the current year.

MMA leaders Qazi Husain Ahmad and Maulana Fazlur Rahman, who were in Saudi Arabia for performing Haj, would discuss with Nawaz Sharif means to intensify the anti-Musharraf movement.

Hafeezur Rahman said the assassination of religious scholar Agha Ziauddin in Gilgit was a targeted killing aimed at creating lawlessness in Northern Areas. He urged the government to launch a clean-up operation in the region to disarm the people, otherwise, target killings would take place on a larger scale.
