KARACHI, Jan 17: Drinking water from a leaking pipeline has inundated a vast portion of University Road, creating hindrance in the smooth flow of traffic.

Although a considerable quantity of water is coming out from a leaking pipeline near Al-Hilal Society for the three days, the KWSB officials have not repaired the pipeline.

The traffic on the said portion of the road often remains choked, particularly during peak hours, owing to haphazard parking of jumbo-sized buses and frequent movement of water tankers. Water gushing out from a leaking valve/pipeline has further added to miseries of the people.

Insiders said as a matter of fact, officials concerned usually avoid repairing leaking pipelines in the initial stage, they carry out repair prior to Eid or some festival, as work in emergency is carried out at exorbitant rates.

SEWAGE: Complaints pertaining to overflowing sewerage lines and gutters continue to pour in from different parts of the city. People residing near Gulshan-i-Iqbal's Hassan Square complained that although sewage water had been overflowing on a main service road, near Hassan Square Apartment for the last one weeks, KWSB officials seem least interested in rectifying the fault.

"The issue of overflowing gutters has been lingering on for the last six months," an elderly man remarked. The filthy water has created unhygienic conditions in the vicinity of Hassan Square and Cosy Homes, it has caused damage to the road where pedestrians face problems.

Filthy environment had also been persisting on a road near Dashtiar Apartment building in Gulshan-i-Iqbal's Block 13-D for the last five days owing to overflowing gutters.
