HYDERABAD, Jan 16: Activists of the Sindh National Party held a rally outside the press club on Sunday in protest against the proposed division of the Hyderabad district.
They took out a procession from Qasimabad which culminated outside the press club. The protesters were raising slogans against division of Hyderabad and influx of outsiders into Sindh.
Central leaders of the party said if the proposal to divide Hyderabad on ethnic lines was not withdrawn, they would resist the move with full force. They were highly critical of the Sindh chief minister and alleged he was playing in the hands of an ethnic group just to perpetuate himself in power.
They criticized MQM chief Altaf Hussain for trying to create bloodshed in Sindh. The central chairman of the party, Mr Ameer Bhambhro said Arbab Ghulam Rahim was no friend of Sindh as he was playing in the hands of "terrorists".
He said Sindh had not accepted the 1940 Resolution to accommodate outsiders in the name of Islam. He said if Islam was the only basis of accommodating outsiders then they should be sent to other Muslim countries including Saudi Arabia.
He said there was no need whatsoever to divide the district on the administrative basis as it was quite convenient to people to reach the city without any difficulty.
Mohammad Ali, Dr Ashraf Noonari, Wahid Bux Sangrasi, Anwar Khoso, Dilshad Bhutto and Khan Dahri also spoke on the occasion. The rally adopted several resolutions demanding withdrawal of proposal to divide Hyderabad district, removal of the DCO, and end to military action in Balochistan.
A resolution demanded grant of full autonomy to federating units as envisaged in the 1940 Resolution and strict implementation of the employment quota. Another resolution demanded shelving of the Kalabagh dam and greater Thal canal projects and immediate release of senior vice-chairman of the party, Agha Shamshad Mughal.
SU: The Controller of Examinations University of Sindh has announced that examinations of BA pass part-II and MA final to be held on Jan 20 have been postponed due to Eidul Azha holidays.
He said the papers would now be conducted on Jan 27 at already notified examination centres in morning shift. He said the copy of notification had already been sent to principals of affiliated colleges.
