LAHORE, Jan 14: Protesters burnt two buses and damaged another four after a motorcyclist was run over in Garhi Shahu on Friday. Police said Muhammad Younus of Baghbanpura was on his way home when a New Khan Metro bus hit him.

Passers-by took him to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Complaining that the buses are driven madly by the divers and accidents have become a routine, residents of the area and students from the University of Engineering and Technology gathered at the scene of accident.

They blocked the road and burnt tyres. They began intercepting every passing bus of the company. Two of the buses were burnt by them, and another four were damaged. Passengers in the buses ran helter-skelter to save their lives and panic gripped the locality.

Police, with the help of other civic agencies, rushed to the spot and held negotiations with the protesters. The protesters dispersed after the police officials assured them of action against the bus drivers and their company.

The body was returned to family without autopsy. A case was registered with no arrest. Meanwhile, three people were killed and two others sustained injuries in an accident in City Raiwind on Friday.

Police said Ali Abbas, Farhan and Wasim were going to Lahore along with two other friends when their car rammed into a trailer. All the car riders suffered injuries. They were rushed to a nearby hospital where Abbas, Farhan and Wasim succumbed to their injuries.

The condition of the other two was stated to be critical. The bodies were handed over to the families without autopsy. A case was registered against the absconding driver while his trailer was impounded by the police.
