KARACHI, Jan 2: The Vice Chancellor, University of Karachi, Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim, has said that a culture of research must be created in the highest seats of learning, as an academic institution cannot be termed a university without research and dissemination of knowledge.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the annual general body meeting of the Karachi Society of Statistics and Information Sciences (KASSIS) held at the Department of Statistics KU.

Appreciating the efforts of the KASSIS founding members, Dr Pirzada said the action taken by these professionals was timely and need of the hour. Prof Nasud Haq, president of KASSIS, in his keynotes address detailed six different methods of finding growth of any data set.

He discussed the growth pattern of economic, biological and human population series. He concluded that the logarithmic model was the best as it followed all desired properties. The United Nations had also endorsed the logarithmic model. - PPI
