KARACHI, Dec 27: The Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi, Dr Pirzada Qasim, on Monday said that each department on the campus was required to hold at least two workshops or seminars during the ensuing semester.

Chairing a meeting of the departmental heads of teaching departments and deans of various faculties of the University, the VC mentioned that it would be mandatory on the part of the chairpersons of departments to hold seminars and workshops during the semester, commencing on Jan 1.

The thematic deliberations through workshops and seminars help improve the performance of departments and promote curricular activities as well, he added. Dr Pirzada also directed the heads of departments to ensure that students complete 75 per cent of attendance and send monthly attendance reports of students to the deans concerned, besides putting the statement on notice boards for the information of students.

He said that newcomers should be informed about varsity rules and norms and introductory sessions should be held for the purpose at every department. The VC said that transparency should be observed in hiring visiting faculty, and chairmen should forward their recommendations an to the deans.
