KARACHI, Dec 27: An alleged robber was shot dead in, what police claimed to be, an encounter in Orangi Town on Monday. Police said that three men boarded a coach near Banaras Chowk heading towards Kabari Market.

One of them got into the vehicle through its front door whereas his accomplices used the rear gate. One of them overpowered the driver and snatched cash at gunpoint. The women passengers raised hue and cry which alerted the police posted near Metro Cinema.

A police mobile intercepted the coach which led to an exchange of fire. During the encounter, police said, one of the suspects sustained bullet injuries but his accomplices, firing in the air, managed to escape.

The wounded suspect was shifted to a hospital where he breathed his last. His identity was yet to be established. Police claimed to having recovered a TT pistol and an amount of Rs950 which, they said, was snatched from the coach driver.
