COLOMBO, Dec 16: Following an anthrax scare on Thursday at the Norwegian embassy, President Chandrika Kumaratunga issued a special directive for high-level investigations , but embassy officials said they had already sent the sample of the powder to Norway for analysis.

The embassy detected a powder in its mail this morning and was immediately closed down indefinitely. The American embassy was closed four months ago after a similar incident. "We cannot say for how long we will be closed, but we take this scare seriously," a spokesman said.
