GUJRANWALA, Dec 10: The trade organizations in Wazirabad have given the police a 10-day deadline to check the alarming rise in dacoity and robbery incidents and arrest the accused.
Speaking at a news conference at a local hotel, Wazirabad Anjuman Tajran president Sheikh Abdul Jalil and other office-bearers said that outlaws had made the life of the traders and citizens miserable.
They said that a delegation of trade organizations and citizens had met with DPO Arif Mushtaq and ASP Rao Zia and apprised them of the deteriorating law and order situation. They said the senior police officers had assured them that the accused involved in robbery and dacoity incidents would be arrested within 10 days.
VOICES CONCERN: The local chamber of commerce and industry and importers/exporters expressed their concern over delay in clearing containers of aluminium scrap by the Port Qasim administration and recovery of rent by shipping companies.
They demanded that the collector custom should adopt solid steps in clearing the containers laden with metal to save industrialists from heavy losses. At a meeting presided over by chamber senior vice-president Asad Elahi, the participants said the aluminium scrap containers parked at Port Qasim for the last few months were not being cleared by the custom authority. They said that shipping companies had started receiving rent on containers from importer/exporters.
They said that manufacturers and industrialists were facing heavy losses in the absence of raw material. They expressed their fear that orders placed by various customers could be cancelled if manufacturing units failed to get the raw material immediately.
They demanded that an impartial inquiry should be conducted against the Port Qasim administration for its failure to clear the containers. Former presidents and senior office bearers of the chamber also attended the meeting.
RALLY: The Anjuman Tulaba Islam took out a protest rally against the formation of Agha Khan education board and demanded of the government to withdraw its decision. The protesters led by divisional Nazim Mehr Qaiser Shehzad and district Nazim Mehr M Sarwer paraded on the GT Road.
