KARACHI, Dec 8: The Anti-Narcotic Force (ANF) thwarted an attempt of narcotics smuggling when they recovered 500kg of hashish and 30kg heroin from a Toyota Corolla car in Korangi area on Tuesday night.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, ANF Commander Brig Mohammad Farooq Shaukat said that on receiving the information that attempt would be made to smuggle out huge quantity of drugs from Karachi, a special team headed by Sindh ANF Joint Director Lt Col Mohammed Khizar Ilyas was formed which started a vigil on the movement of a suspected car.

Brig Farooq Shaukat said that the ANF team at about 11.30pm spotted a car (AAG-597) carrying two persons and signalled them to stop during surveillance at Nasir Jump in Korangi. However, instead of complying with the signal, the driver tried to speed off and turned towards industrial area.

The raiding party chased the car and managed to intercept it about half a kilometre away near Zamzama Pakwan in front of marriage gardens. However, the occupants of the car made their escape under the cover of darkness.

He said that the search of the car resulted in recovery of 500kg hashish stacked in the boot of the car while 30kg heroin was recovered from the foot board of the rear seat. The ANF Commander said that a case had been registered and investigations were underway along with efforts to nab the culprits.

Brig Shaukat said the ANF had chalked out a programme to train the scouts in taking action against drug smugglers. In this regard, he said, a training programme would be held in Larkana. -APP
