KARACHI, Nov 28: The University of Karachi on Saturday released the lists of 2,534 applicants selected for admission to Master's programmes for the session 2005 at its 40 departments.

"There are as many as 2,269 available seats, but we have increased the number of students selected - on the basis of merit - by 10 to 15 per cent in view of the fact that seats at some departments are left at some later stage in the case of routine student dropouts," stated Dr M Ishaq, Director of the Admission Committee.

He said that about 282 seats in some departments pertaining to languages and Islamic Studies remained vacant as students showed less interest for them. He said that admission fees from selected students list would be accepted on November 30 to December 2.

Applicants not satisfied with the merit list or their placement can also submit claim forms, available for Rs200 each, at the university gate, within the same dates.

Admission lists have been put on display at the Silver Jubilee Gate of the university and at the office of the admission committee at the varsity's administration block.

The lists, however, could not be put on the university website for technical reasons on Saturday. Students can visit the website from Monday onwards for the purpose, said a source on the campus.
