KHAIRPUR: Teachers boycott classes

KHAIRPUR, Nov 26: Hundreds of primary school teachers from all the eight talukas of Khairpur district boycotted their classes and launched an agitation here on Friday.

The teachers took out a procession, led by district office-bearers of the Primary Teachers Association.

The procession started from Phool Bagh, marched through Panj Gulla Chowk, Chhatti Chowk, the Mall, Kutchery Road and reached the local press club. The participants were carrying banners and raising slogans against the police. They also staged a sit-in.

Teachers were protesting against police for not arresting murderers of Liaquat Ali Rind, president, of PTA Khairpur taluka, who was killed on Nov 18, in Khairpur. Hundreds of teachers raised slogans for the arrest of murderers and warned to continue their agitation.

Members of the Muttahida Mazdoor Federation, Khairpur district and office bearers of the Shah Abdul Latif University Employees Association also participated in the protest. The protesters staged sit-in on the Mall, Kutchery Road and DCO House Road. These roads remained close for about 2 hours.

PTA president Asadullah Memon, Ali Gul Jhakhar, Khair Mohammad Soomro, Ghulib Shah (all from PTA), Mohammad Ali Phulpoto, chairman, Muttahida Mazdoor Federation, Feroze Ali Phulpoto from the Shah Abdul Latif University Employees Association, Ali Ansar Sindhu from Disabled Persons Association, Aijaz Bhutto from Jagarta Forum and other leaders of different associations and NGOs delivered speeches and said that they will continue their agitation till arrest of murderers.

INJURED IN CLASH: One person was injured in a clash between two groups over possession of a plot of land. Injured Ahmed Ali Deepar has registered a case at the Mirwah police station against seven persons namely Pyar Ali, Mubarak, Manthar, Ulan, Mohammad Umer and one unidentified accused on Friday. The complainant has alleged that seven accused attacked and injured him.
