HYDERABAD, Nov 24: The Sindh National Council is organizing an "International Human Rights and Sindhiyat Conference" on Dec 10 and 11 to highlight violations of human rights in Sindh.

This was announced by leaders of the party, Punhal Sario, Dr Dodo Mehiri, Mohammad Ali Leghari and Dr Rahim Solangi at a press conference at the Hyderabad press club on Wednesday.

They said the party had highlighted the case of Sindh at the international level including America, South Africa and European countries. They said eleven members of US Congress had sent a joint communication to President Gen Pervez Musharraf on the Kalabagh dam and Thal canal issues and other injustices meted out to Sindh.

They said that 10 Congressmen had addressed a joint communication to the chairman of Voice of America to include Sindhi language programmes in its broadcast in the interest of world peace.

They said it was extremely necessary to highlight the case of Sindh at the international level and therefore the party had decided to organize a two-day conference in furtherance of this objective.

They said the conference would discuss important subjects of human rights and rule of law, political, economic and democratic rights, history, culture and national heritage of Sindh.

They pointed out that Sindh was generating 70 per cent of the total revenue of the country but more than 50 per cent of its people were living below the poverty line.
