KARACHI, Nov 21: Australian Bradley Hindle, who made it through to the second round in the qualifiers after disposing off M. Suleman in only 10 minutes, met his Waterloo in the CNS International Squash Championship , going down to Pakistan's Arshad Iqbal Burki in a 40-minute tussle at the Pakistan Navy Roshan Khan Jahangir Khan Squash Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Trying his best to stay in contention and reach the main round, Hindle played some good squash but could not stem the tide, as Arshad playing lovely cross court shots mixed with fine volleys managed to stay ahead of is opponent, winning in three games 11-7, 11-5, 11-10 (3-1).
Also making progress into the main round was Farhan Mehboob, who collared Khayal Mohammad after 27 minutes in three straight games 11-5, 11-7, 11-5. Shams-ul-Haq, riding on a crest of a wave, had to battle hard while shutting off Khawaja Adil Maqbool's further progress, after four games which lasted 37 minutes.
Shams won the opening game 11-8 but was on even keel once again, when Khawaja fought back gallantly to level the game scores 1-1. But picking up the next two hard fought games, Shams came through a triumphant 11-8, 6-11, 11-7, 11-9 winner.
In a game that could have swung either way, Yasir Butt finally got the better of Khalid Atlas after four games which lasted 39 minutes. Khalid looked quite pleased with himself after winning the first game 11-7. But getting his act together and never looking back, Yasir reeled his way through the next three games 11-7, 11-9, 11-6.
The President of the World Squash Federation Jahangir Khan will be the chief guest at the opening ceremony on Monday at 1500 hours. Following were the results. Farhan Mehboob (Pakistan) beat Khayal Mohammad (Pakistan) 11-5, 11-7, 11-5. Arshad Iqbal Burki (Pakistan) beat Bradley Hindle (Australia) 11-7, 11-5, 11-10 (3-1). Shams-ul Islam (Pakistan) beat Khawja Adil Maqbool (Pakistan) 11-8, 6-11, 11-7, 11-9. Yasir Butt (Pakistan) beat Khalid Atlas (Pakistan) 7-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-6.
