SARGODHA, Nov 5: Jhal Chakian police booked an assistant sub-inspector for patronizing and harbouring highway robbers. Police got information that ASI Hashmat Ali was helping robbers by keeping looted goods at his residence at Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Town. Police raided his residence and found a double cabin wagon snatched at gunpoint from Sheikhupura.

During interrogation, the ASI told police that it was parked by his nephew. Later, he confessed that his nephew and his accomplices snatched the vehicle at gunpoint. Insiders told this correspondent that the Jhal Chakian police SHO minimized the gravity of offence after getting huge bribe from him, otherwise it was proved during preliminary investigation that the ASI was fully involved in robberies.

The ASI was suspended for implicating a homoeo doctor in a narcotics case at Sahiwal. He is patronizing drug runners too. He is reportedly a brother-in-law of a bureaucrat that is why nobody took action against him.

ABSCONDERS ON JOB: Two employees of agriculture department, despite being declared absconders for failing to appear before the Sargodha anti-corruption court since 1979, were doing their job without any break.

The Punjab government reportedly took serious notice of it and directed to provide details of all those employees who were involved in corruption cases. Interestingly, the case has been closed for non-availability of accused Mushtaq Ahmad and Chaudhry Abdul Majeed although during this period they remained on job.

It is reliably learnt that with the connivance of high ups they managed to avoid appearance in court. It is also learnt that during last decade, around 1,900 cases were registered against government employees but most of them are still either lingering or sent to record room.
