KARACHI, Nov 5: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board has repaired a leaking 48-inch-dia water pipeline near Cafe Pyala in Gulberg Town from where thousands of gallons of water was said to be going to waste daily.

According to the KWSB, an illegal dying and bleaching factory was constructed on the pipeline which was removed with the cooperation of the Gulberg Town administration. Repair of the line was then carried out.

The MD KWSB inspected the leakage repair work on Thursday night. He was accompanied by Gulberg Town Nazim Farooq Naimatullah, Superintendent Engineer Water Trunk Main Iftekhar Ahmed, XEN Saleem Akhtar and other engineers.

The water board's MD regretted the construction of illegal encroachments and installations on its trunk mains and other lines, and called for measures for their removal.

He noted that flats, houses and factories had been built on many lines due to which problems were faced in carrying out repair works there. Brig Iftekhar said that the owner of the dying and bleaching factory was being served on notices for the last two years, but he did not bother.

However, when the water board noted that contamination was taking place due to a drain flowing nearby, it took steps, removed the factory machinery with the help of cranes, and repaired the pipeline.- APP
