KARACHI, Oct 29: Agitating teachers of the Department of Applied Chemistry, University of Karachi called on the Vice Chancellor, Dr Pirzada Qasim, on Friday and discussed their problems.

A spokesman for the varsity said the VC constituted a committee, headed by the Dean Science Faculty, Dr Mohammad Qaiser, to look into the grievances of the teachers, particularly in the wake of an administrative decision about the establishment of a full-fledged Chemical Technology/Engineering department at the university.

The committee would evolve a system for sharing resources available at the Applied Chemistry and Chemical Technology departments in a way that academic activities do not suffer at both departments.

The teachers were informed that the Chemical Technology programme, already in progress, would not be blocked and efforts would be made to develop it on a sound footing with a wise utilization of resources available with the university.

The spokesman said that teachers had agreed to immediately resume their academic duties. Members of the committee included Dr Saira Hameed, chairperson of the Applied Chemistry department, Dr Fasihullah Khan, in-charge of the Chemical Technology programme, and Dr Syed Ishrat Ali of the Applied Chemistry department.
