GENEVA, Oct 8: An Islamic scholar was rushed to hospital in the Swiss city of Lausanne on Friday after he was injured in a knife attack during prayer, police said.

Mauwafac el-Rifai, imam at the Islamic Centre in the Lake Geneva city, was attacked by an unidentified man as he was presiding the prayer. His injuries do not seem to be life threatening, police said.

Some 200 people attended the ceremony in the centre which is close to the railway station. The attacker walked up to Mr Rifai and stabbed him, threatening worshippers who came to his rescue. Four of them also sustained minor injuries as did the assailant. -AFP
