HYDERABAD, Oct 7: A conference on "Poverty alleviation through education" has said education should be given priority by policy-makers because it will ensure social justice, peace and prosperity.

The two-day All Pakistan education conference, organized by the faculty of education, University of Sindh, which concluded on Tuesday, adopted 13 recommendations.

The conference said education must respond to economic needs of individuals, and the society at large. For betterment of the society, a multi-disciplinary approach was required to make education cost-effective and relevant to lives of people.

Education must be a part of poverty alleviation plans, it maintained. It said there was a need to restructure the management of education, based on decentralization in the decision making process.

The conference called upon the private sector to play its role in providing educational facilities in remote areas of the country. The conference recommended handsome packages for teachers so that their living conditions could be improved.

On this occasion, the dean, faculty of natural sciences, Prof Asif Ali Kazi, distributed memorial shields among scholars who presented papers and workers and organizers of the conference.
