HYDERABAD, Oct 5: The Sindh Sugarcane Growers' Association has thanked the provincial chief minister for his commitment about the start of the sugarcane crushing season latest by October 15.

It hoped that the government would take strict action against those sugar mills which violated the notification in this regard. The association held a meeting in Karachi on Monday under the chairmanship of Syed Qurban Ali Shah, the president of the association.

SSGA spokesman Zulfiqar Ali told this correspondent here on Tuesday that the association had advised the sugarcane growers to supply their crop only to those mills which were prepared to pay a fair price for it.

SPSC: The Sindh Public Service Commission has announced that short hand and typing test of candidates for the posts of stenographers (BPS-12) in the services, general administration and coordination Department will be held at the Government Commercial Institute, Minara Road, Sukkur, on October 11 at 10am; at government D.J. Science College, Karachi, on 14; and at Government College of Technology, Wahdat Colony, Hyderabad, on 16 at the same time.

MEDICAL EXAMINATION: The Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit bench, has ordered medical examination of an old man, who claims to be the first husband of a young woman, who herself is seeking transfer of a Zina case lodged against her and her interned husband on the ground that she fears danger to her life in Mithi.

When inquired by Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmani, on Monday, how old Tahir Nohrio was, he replied that he was 45, and added that his marriage with the young woman, Kallan, took place 10 years ago.

The judge, doubting that the girl had married Tahir of her own free will since he appeared to be over 60, ordered an examination by the civil surgeon of the Services Hospital on Oct 5 to determine his age.

The court also directed the officer investigating the case lodged by Tahir against Kallan and her imprisoned husband, Chanesar, to appear in court on the next hearing on Oct 7. A report was also called from the Mirpurkhas district jail.

Kallan, daughter of Mohammad Ramazan, citing Tahir as respondent in her case transfer application, said that the case was pending before the Mithi sessions judge, while she was presently residing in Badin district.

Her solicitor contended in the application that she was kidnapped from Badin and taken to Diplo in collusion with the DPOs of Badin and Mithi on instigation of Arbab Ameer Hassan, an influential of the area. He prayed the court to transfer the case, which was fit for quashing, to Hyderabad for want of her protection.
