HYDERABAD, Sept 29: The University of Sindh has completed three major projects at a cost of Rs9.07 million from its own resources and launched two other projects at a cost of Rs44 million at its Jamshoro campus.
The vice-chancellor of the university, Mr Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, on Wednesday inaugurated a building comprising 10 classrooms as additional facility for different departments, extension building of the Dr M.A. Kazi Institute of Chemistry and extension building of the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science.
The vice-chancellor also laid the foundation stone of one hostel for the visiting faculty and other for the undergraduate boys. Mr Siddiqui inspected the construction work of extension of the girls' hostel, Institute of Biochemistry, Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering.
A spokesman of the university said that 10 classrooms would eliminate a shortage of classrooms of the Institute of Biochemistry, Institute of Biotechnology and Genetics Engineering, Institute of Commerce and Department of Freshwater Biology and Fisheries.
The extension building of the IMCS include two computer laboratories, one big seminar hall, classrooms and offices for faculty members. The Higher Education Commission had approved development schemes for undergraduate hostel and hostel for visiting faculty.
MUET: A meeting of the technical committee on the bankable feasibility study of the Thar coal mining project was held at the Mehran University on Sept 23 to evaluate the draft feasibility study of the project which was prepared by the Rheinbran Engineering, Germany.
A spokesman for the university said on Wednesday that the Thar coal project was the first mega project of its kind in the country to generate electricity from indigenous vast coal resources of the region.
Initially, he said, 1,000 MW capacity coal fired power plant had been proposed. Later on, it will be multiplied as per the national needs. This project, the spokesman said, would not only meet the shortage of electricity in the country but hard earned forex amount would also be saved.
He said thousands of jobs for engineers, technologists and other categories including skilled and semi-skilled workers would be created. This project would have tremendous impact on the socio- economic conditions of the poorest region of the country, he said. The members of the technical committee Abbas Shah, Dr Abdul Ghani Pathan, Ghazanfar Abbas and Dr Mohammad Ali Shah attended the meeting.
DG HEALTH: The director-general of the health services, Sindh, Dr Hussain Bux Memon in a statement on Wednesday said that there was no shortage of ASV vaccine in the Tharparkar district.
He said the ASV vaccine was being provided to all hospitals of the district on the priority basis. He said since Jan 2004, 2,474 ASV viols had been provided to the district and added that 50 viols were sent on Wednesday. He said since Jan this year 1,679 snake bite cases had been reported till date.
