GUJRANWALA, Sept 23: The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited employees union took out procession to protest against the administration for allegedly implementing anti-worker policies.

The employees of the PTCL gathered outside Model Town exchange on the GT Road and later marched towards the central telephone exchange in front of the former city railway station. They were carrying banners and placards inscribed with their demands, and chanting slogan against the government and PTCL higher-ups.

Speaking to the participants, union president Muhammad Nawaz Chauhan and other office-bearers alleged that 'contract mafia' officers were receiving hundreds of thousands rupees in the form of salaries from the national exchequer.

But the genuine demands of the employees, who were increasing the revenue for department, were being ignored. They demanded that all long-standing demands of employees should be accepted without delay. They threatened that they would severe the communication system throughout the country if their demands were not accepted by the government.

GANG BUSTED: Cantonment police on Thursday claimed to have busted a car lifter gang from Chenab Bela, Wazirabad in a raid and recovered vehicles and illegal arms from their possession.

Reports said Akber, Imran and Farooq hijacked a car owned by Dr Zaheer Ahmad from the Hospital Road and were on their way to Peshawer to sell it. On receiving information, the police set up a picket on the GT Road. But they broke the barrier and escaped toward Chenab Bela.

The raiding party followed the accused and arrested them after a brief encounter. The police recovered three cars, two motorcycles and other looted goods besides illegal arms from their possession. A case has been registered.

BAILIFF: A bailiff of the district and sessions judge on Thursday raided the Cantonment police station, recovered an illegally detained person and produced him before the court.

Reports said Ashraf of Kikranwali village filed a petition with the court stating that his father Akram had been detained illegally by the police for the last one week. The bailiff raided the police station and recovered Akram while judge Javed Iqbal Siddiqui summoned the SHO and the investigating officer on Friday.
