KARACHI, Sept 15: The Al Khadim group in the City Council has deplored the inordinate delay in the implementation of the council's resolution on abolishing charged-parking.

Haji Siddique Rathor, who heads the group, told a news conference on Wednesday that "the City Nazim considers himself above the City Council and is not paying any heed to its resolutions, particularly the important one that is on the issue of charged-parking and adopted recently."

He observed that people of Karachi were being made to come to the terms of 'parking mafia' and to pay whatever fixed by it as parking fee. Citizens were also facing humiliation at the hands of charged-parking personnel who often misbehaved, Mr Rathor said.

Pointing out that any contract exceeding Rs4 million had to be approved by City Council first, he alleged that the contract of charged parking involving millions of rupees had been awarded in sheer violation of this rule. -PPI
