SIALKOT, Sept 13: Relatives and accomplices of a drug trafficker beat up a raiding police party and got him freed from their custody late Sunday night in Ranjhai village, Daska tehsil.

The Daska Sadar police team led by ASI Tariq Mehmood raided the hideout and arrested red-handed drug pusher Rana Muhammad Waris while selling narcotics. Police also recovered a big quantity of hashish from him.

In the meanwhile, over 15 relatives and accomplices of the accused, including women, gathered there and got him freed and also thrashed the policemen. They also ripped to shreds the uniform of ASI Tariq Mehmood, snatched a mobile phone and Rs750 in cash from him and fled.

On the report of ASI, the Sadar police have registered a case against Rana Waris and his three brothers Rana Ashiq, Rana Abdul Ghani, Rana Sadiq and 12 unknown accused, including women.

INVESTMENT: State Minister for Privatisation and Investment Umer Ahmed Ghuman claimed that the foreign investment of 1.10 billion dollars was expected in Pakistan during the current month.

Talking to newsmen at his residence on Monday, the state minister said the foreign investors had diverted their investment activities towards Pakistan due to investment-friendly policies of the new prime minister.

He said the government would soon ink various pacts with foreign investors with regard to the provision of investment-friendly environment and safety to their assets.
