KARACHI, Sept 7: Armed gangsters once again targeted Ali Mohammad Mohallah in Lyari Town on Tuesday morning by resorting to indiscriminate firing, creating panic among residents. According to residents, incidents of firing and looting have become a routine and the law-enforcement agencies have failed to control the situation.
They urged the authorities to take effective measures for protecting the life and property of the people. In this regard, they called for establishing a permanent rangers post in the locality to check the movement of "anti- social elements".
They said that a sense of insecurity prevailed in the area following the indiscriminate firing incident that took place on Tuesday morning. Luckily, no one was injured as the miscreants fled when people came out of their houses to resist them. A noted social worker of the locality said it was not the first time that such incident had happened.
GOVERNOR VISITS: Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, accompanied by the Sindh Home Minister, Rauf Siddiqi, IGP Syed Kamal Shah and D-G Rangers Maj-Gen Javed Zia, on Tuesday paid a visit to Lyari on Tuesday to review the security arrangements and to monitor the law and order situation.
The governor, visited the troubled area where police had launched an operation against some gangs of robbers. The governor, while addressing people at Baloch Hall, said that the operation was launched to eliminate crime dens in the area.
He said that the Sindh government had sanctioned Rs50 million for welfare projects in Lyari and announced another Rs50 million for new welfare projects. He also announced Rs 1 million each for police and rangers as a token of appreciation for their efforts to provide security to the people.
Mr Ibad stressed sought people's co-operation in eliminating anti-social and anti-state elements in the society. He reiterated that law enforcers were doing their best job to restore peace to Lyari.
