KARACHI, Aug 27: A high-level meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Mohammad Aslam Sanjrani, has constituted a committee to recommend steps for taking action under the law against the officials and civilians involved in land-grabbing.

The committee would prepare a working paper within a week identifying 538 kutchi abadis (slums) notified in 1985; suggesting ways and means for the removal of encroachments; and availability of required force for taking action against encroachers and land-grabbers.

Another committee, headed by Additional Chief Secretary Local Government Muhammad Saleem Khan, would suggest steps for taking action against the government officials and others involved in land grabbing.

Among others, law secretary, director-general kutchi abadis, member (land utilization) Board of Revenue, district coordination officer, and Director Lyari Expressway would be the committee members.

The meeting was informed that the city government of Karachi was also preparing a report on required police force and establishment of an anti-encroachment cell. -PPI
