FAISALABAD, Aug 23: The Central Development Working Party of the federal government has formally approved a mega water supply project involving a foreign aid of Rs2,111.82 million. Work on the project is likely to start soon.

A Wasa spokesman claimed here on Monday that after completing the procedural formalities, the project of sinking of tubewells along the Jhang Branch Canal to provide potable water to the locals had been sent to the CDWP for approval.

He said the project would cost Rs2,515 million - Rs2,111.82 million to be provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency and Rs331.426 by the Pakistan government.

He said a high-powered committee had been constituted to pinpoint development projects of the area for which special funds would be allocated. The committee is headed by Punjab Communication and Works Minister Chaudhry Muhammad Zaheeruddin Khan while District Nazim Zahid Nazir, City Tehsil Nazim Mumtaz Ali Cheema, Saddar Tehsil Nazim Muhammad Afzal, Saddar Tehsil Naib Nazim Zahid Rasheed, some union council Nazims and MPAs would be its members.

It is pertinent to mention that the water supply project for citizen was in the doldrums for the last couple of years, but after the approval of the CDWP there were chances that it would be commenced in the near future.
