KARACHI, Aug 23: The Soldier Bazaar police on late Sunday night arrested a sub-inspector and recovered two vehicles with tampered engine and chassis numbers from his possession.

Moreover, over a dozen fake stamps, ID cards, passports and punching material used for tampering of vehicles was also seized.

SHO Soldier Bazaar Imran Zaidi told Dawn that SI Amir Hayat of the Investigation Zone-I was intercepted by the police when he was roaming in a Suzuki Hi-roof without registration number plates.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of three fake registration number plates. Police interrogated the suspect and recovered another vehicle from his house in Malir City.

During the raid, the police also recovered the material used in altering vehicle engine and chassis numbers. Police also recovered fake stamps of all senior police officials and several banks.

A bunch of number plates were also recovered from his house, the police added. At least five ID cards of his own, passports, service cards, blank registration of vehicles were also recovered during the raid.
