Nawaz Sharif congratulates nation

Published August 14, 2004

ISLAMABAD, Aug 13: The chief of his own faction of the Pakistan Muslim League, Mian Nawaz Sharif, has said that dynamic nations always strengthen their ideological moorings and protect their assets , while laws of nature impose tyranny, dishonour, poverty and helplessness on the people who lose sight of their objectives.

"The consequences of our neglect sometimes appear in the shape of unrepresentative governments, and sometimes usurpation of power at gunpoint," Mr Sharif said in a message to the nation on the country's Independence Day.

In the message, issued from Jeddah and released by the party's office here on Friday, Mr Sharif said: "We have seen Pakistan being dismembered and the largest army in Muslim history laying down arms in humiliation. We have seen abolition of democracy and rule of law, and have felt dangers lurking over our nuclear capability that was achieved with great sacrifices."
