KARACHI, Aug 12: The residents of North Nazimabad's blocks, L and H, have been experiencing acute water shortage for the last one week. The worst-affected are those who reside on either side of the main road , which links Five-Star Chowrangi with Landhi Kotal roundabout.

The people, especially those living in apartment buildings in the area, in the absence of piped water, have to fetch water in cans from nearby homes and take them to upper floors.

The residents deplored that though acute water shortage had been persisting in their locality for the last one week, the KWSB officials concerned had not taken measures to restore normal supply despite lodging of a number of complaints with them.

Complaints of persisting water shortage have also been received from the residents of North Karachi's sectors 11-A and 11-B, Gulshan-i-Iqbal's blocks 4-A, 10 and 10-A, Pakistan Chowk, Haquani Chowk, Kharadar, Mithadar, Ramswami and its adjoining areas.

The residents of the affected localities demanded the city nazim and the KWSB managing director to direct the officials concerned to immediately restore normal supply.

OVERFLOWS: The sewage gushing out of choked gutters has inundated a major link road of Kharadar, Bagh-i-Zehra street, causing inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians, besides creating unhygienic condition in the locality.

People residing on either side of the street said that the sewage was not only creating stinking atmosphere in the locality, but it was damaging the street also. They deplored that despite lodging repeated complaints about the persisting filthy environment in their locality, the KWSB officials concerned had not yet bothered to clean the gutters.
