KARACHI, Aug 5: The city council on Thursday unanimously adopted a resolution demanding devolution of various departments, including the fisheries department to the City District Government Karachi (CDGK).

The council also demanded implementation of a previous resolution passed in 2001 envisaging improvement of the functions of these departments and implementing the devolution plan in letter and spirit.

Muslim Pervez, presiding officer of city council, chairing the session said that in the defunct KMC, various departments were under the control of the KMC, but the government had not yet handed over these departments to the CDGK.

Besides the approval of resolution, several union councillors of Lyari, Baba Bhit and Baldia were critical of non-development in their areas, saying these were deprived of the basic facilities of life, and had grave problems of health, potable water, roads, sewerage and electricity. -PPI
