KARACHI, Aug 4: Pakistan Rangers Sindh, on Wednesday said that it had recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from two locations in Landhi following the arrest of three activists of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement.

Addressing a press briefing at the Rangers Headquarters, Sindh, DG Rangers Maj-Gen Javed Zia said, after receiving information that some terrorists had gone underground and some had left the city, the Rangers Field Investigation Team (FIT) conducted raids resulting in the arrests of terrorists and subsequent recovery of arms and ammunition.

Giving details of the operation, Col Zafar Awan said that FIT had nabbed Ghulam Dastagir alias Raza from the city. While on information obtained from him during interrogation, FIT arrested Nazimuddin alias Nazim Kala and Aftab Husain alias Affu from Lahore.

During interrogations, the three suspects also disclosed locations in the close proximity of former party headquarters of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement, Baitul Hamza, from where FIT recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition.

Col Zafar said that according to the suspects, the arms and ammunition were brought to the city on various points of time. Replying to a question, DG Rangers Javed Zia said that so far no links had been found between the suspects and incidents of last May.

The Rangers officials, however, refrained from answering several queries such as source of the weapons, saying the ongoing investigations could be jeopardised. The arms cache comprise 64 weapons including 19 submachine guns, 12 7mm rifles, three MP-5 guns, repeater guns, M-16 rifles, telescopes, hand grenades and pistols, and over 18,000 ammunition.
