HYDERABAD, July 27: The University of Sindh started construction of four new buildings, including a girls' hostel and institutes, at the Allama I. I. Kazi Campus, Jamshoro, on Tuesday at an estimated cost of over Rs92 million.

Vice-chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui was chief guest at the foundation stone laying ceremony which was attended by all faculty deans, institute directors, teaching department chairpersons and heads of various administrative sections.

The scheme includes an undergraduate girls' hostel, Institute of Biochemistry, Institute of Biotechnology and extension wing of the Dr M. A. Kazi Institute of Chemistry.

The buildings, on completion, would cater to accommodation needs of girl students besides meeting the shortage of offices and classrooms. The hostel building would be completed in 20 months at an estimated cost of Rs36.68 million with 128 double bedrooms for 256 students and would provide a dining hall, TV lounge and reading room besides other facilities.

With a ground and first floor, the Institute of Biochemistry would be a Rs21.33 million project and would provide a lecture hall, laboratories, auditorium hall, seminar hall, library, faculty offices, staff room and a girls' common room.

The Institute of Biotechnology, at a cost of Rs14.377 million, would be completed in 18 months while extension wing of the Institute of Chemistry would cost Rs21.46 million.

Meanwhile, the University of Sindh, announced that those MA (Final) candidates who were reported in copying cases and failed to appear before the discipline committee should appear before it on Aug 2.

He said that those BA (Pass) Part-II candidates who were reported from Dadu, K. N. Shah, Mehar, Badin, Sujawal and Thatta centres should also appear before the committee on Aug 2 while those candidates who were reported from Umerkot centre should appear on Aug 3.
