KARACHI, July 26: The Sindh Home Department has withdrawn the order of detention issued under Maintenance of Public Order, 1960, against Orangi Town Nazim Shahid Alam alias Guddu Bihari.

This was stated by Sindh Additional Advocate-General Ahmed Pirzada on Monday before a division bench of Sindh High Court, comprising Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Gulzar Ahmed, which was seized with hearing of a constitution petition filed by Guddu Bihari challenging his detention.

The AAG also placed on record a notification issued on July 24 by the Sindh Home Secretary regarding withdrawal of the order. The petitioner maintained that after being elected as town nazim in 2001, he had been carrying out development works in his town which was not to the liking of a coalition partner in provincial government.

Representing the petitioner, Khawaja Naveed Ahmed said that the petition had become infructuous in the new circumstances. Following the statements, the bench disposed of the same as not pressed. -APP
