KARACHI, July 23: A campaign against quackery has been launched jointly by the Edhi Foundation and Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), it was learnt on Thursday.

Under the initiative, some 1,000 stickers have been produced, which would be pasted on all Edhi ambulances and inside Edhi centres.

Some 500 large-sized stickers have already been pasted on ambulances in service in Sindh, including Karachi, Rizwan Edhi of the Edhi Foundation told this reporter. The stickers with slogans in Urdu say: "Beware of quacks and unqualified doctors."

The stickers are expected to prove very effective in the drive against quackery, said Dr Shershah Syed of the PMA. He claimed that similar stickers, made in connection with an epilepsy drive, had sparked a number of enquiries by patients. "In the same way, we are hoping that these stickers too will draw a positive response."

Answering a question, Dr Syed said, the Edhi Foundation had made only one demand with regard to the anti-quackery campaign. "They told us that no slogan or logo of any company or NGO will be allowed on the sticker. We agreed, and the campaign is on."
