GUJRANWALA, July 23: The anti-terrorism court No 2 acquitted 56 people involved in Phalia, Mandi Bahauddin, sectarian case after mediation between two sects here on Friday.
Four people were killed and dozens of others injured in a clash between two sects on Ashura in Phalia last year. Police arrested 56 men of both the sects and submitted their case before the anti-terrorism court. The prosecution apprised the court on Friday that the elders of both the sects have reconciled them.
SHOT DEAD: Two youths were shot dead on suspicion of having relations with a woman in Kot Khizri, Dhaunkel, late on Thursday night. Jaffer Husain of Sheikhupura and Ghulam Muhammad of Ghakkhar town were the employees of labour councillor Muhammad Bashir. They were asleep at his outhouse when unidentified assailants came there and shot them dead.
It was suspected that the deceased youths had relations with the woman of the same village. Wazirabad Sadar police have registered a case against unidentified accused on the report of the councillor.
Meanwhile, a teenager was shot dead by his rival over an old enmity in Ghakkhar town on Friday. Farman Ali (18) was sitting outside the Ghakkhar railway station when accused Qadir alias Papa came there and opened fire on him. He died on the spot. It was reported that the deceased had come from the jail a few days ago after one-and-a-half-year. He was involved in a murder attack case.
REPORT SOUGHT: A local court on Friday summoned the Wasa managing director and a sewerage contractor on July 29 and sought report from them on the death of a passer by. The judge took the action on a writ petition filed by Human Friend Foundation chairman advocate Sheikh Eisad Masud.
The petitioner pleaded that the Wasa contractor had dug a ditch for the construction of a manhole on the Model Town Road and left it uncovered. Resultantly, he said the passer by fell into the ditch along with his bicycle last week during rain and died. He said the body was taken out from the ditch next day when the rainwater was pumped out.

The court acquitted his co-accused, Khrshid Bibi, by giving her the benefit of the doubt. According to the prosecution, the convict had killed Asghar over an old enmity in Sharifpura, Kamoki, two years ago.
