SUKKUR, July 1: Judge anti-terrorism court-II, Sukkur and Larkana, on Wednesday sentenced four convicts to undergo twice life imprisonment and fined them Rs100,000 each for murder and robbery.

The four convicts, Khaliq Panhwar, Sana Malik, Akhtiar Shah andHazoor Bux Panhwar had attacked a medical company's van in 2002 and killed Hazoor Bux Mirani in the limits of Kotdiji police station.

They had looted Rs40,000 from other occupants of the van and fled. In default of fine payment the accused have to further undergo two years imprisonment. The court acquitted absconding accused Abdul Malik Ogahi for want of evidence.

PROTEST: Residents of Surahyo village Rohri taluka staged a demonstration outside the press club here on Thursday morning against the non-supply of power for the last four days.

Suhrab Khorkhani and others told the newsmen that the transformer of their village had developed a fault since the last four days but the Hesco officials were not ready to repair it. They alleged that the line superintendent concerned was demanding illegal gratification for the purpose.

BAN ON RECRUITMENT: Thousands of people who had applied for jobs in the Pakistan Railways have deplored the ban on appointments in the department imposed by the Ministry of Railways on Wednesday.

Some 12,000 people had submitted applications for assistant station master, telephone operator and other posts in the department. They had purchased application forms for Rs100 and Rs50.

SSC RESULT: Result of Secondary School Certificate Part-II annual examination 2004 (science and general groups) of the Sukkur Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education will be announced on July 2 (today).
