KARACHI, June 30: Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town has adopted a 'Public Service Delivery System' to provide the people with a better access to the town administration.

The system is prepared by Transparency International Pakistan (TIP), an organization fighting corruption in collaboration with the public and private sectors.

This was stated by speakers during a presentation on "Modern transparency system" in a local hotel on Wednesday. Muslim Pervez, presiding officer of the City Council Karachi, speaking as the chief guest said: "We can achieve our goals only by transparency and honesty. Islam teaches us to do everything honestly and in a transparent way."

He said: "Gulshan Town has introduced a unique system and we will try to adopt this system in the City District Government Karachi and in other towns of the city." Gulshan Town Nazim Abdul Wahab said they had run the system in an ideal and transparent way and wanted to give the people latest technology.

"If the new system of Customer Service Centre starts working in its maximum capacity, Gulshan Town will be the first of its kind in Pakistan to provide a computerized network for complaints, suggestions and solutions to local government problems of the people," he said.

Shoukat Umeri, chief executive of the TIP, said that it was an impartial, non-confrontational and non-investigative organization. He said the Gulshan Town nazim would inaugurate a modern electronic centre prepared for the town by the TIP. Lt-Gen Moinuddin Haider, MPA Younus Barai and members of a TIP delegation from India, Croatia, the United Kingdom and Nigeria also spoke. - PPI
