GUJRANWALA, June 30: The district council approved the budget of Rs3511.976 million for the fiscal year 2004-05 here on Wednesday. Presenting the budget, District Nazim Chaudhry Fiaz Ahmad Chattha pointed out that Rs928.727 million had been allocated for development.

The district Nazim said that an estimated amount of Rs2443.249 million had been earmarked for expenditures. He said that out of the total amount Rs8.070 million had been allocated for the agricultural sector, Rs228.983 for the construction of roads, Rs40.582 for education, Rs9.825 for health, Rs2 million for government departments and its buildings, Rs0.691 million for former district council building, Rs1.47 million for education sector reforms and Rs15.375 million for funded schemes.

The District Nazim said that Rs17.500 million had been set aside for development schemes of women, Rs7.200 million for councillors elected on special seats and Rs130 million for union councils development programmes. He said that Rs79.500 million had been allocated for the construction of new development schemes.

Mr Chattha said that Rs8.070 million had been allocated for two water management schemes, Rs181.395 million for roads in the district, Rs36.741 million for chief minister's eight schemes, Rs10.847 million for 74 schemes of former district council, Rs40.582 million for 44 schemes of education, Rs147 million for provision of better facilities to primary and middle schools, Rs9.625 million for four health schemes. He said that Rs241.398 million had been set aside for citizen community boards.
