KARACHI, June 23: At least 400 houses of Surjani Town's Sector 5-D are being supplied contaminated water for the last two weeks.

Residents of the affected sector of Surjani Town complained that although about 400 houses (from House No 1 to 400) are being supplied stinking water for the last two weeks, KWSB officials have, so far, not taken any measures at all to solve the problem of contaminated water despite the fact that a number of complaints had been lodged with them.

"We have also brought the issue to the knowledge of Nazim of Maiymarabad Union Council, Gadap, but he too has not been able to help resolve the issue," a resident of the affected locality said, adding that "the filthy water continuously being supplied to our houses has, on the one hand, pollutes our underground tanks and, on the other, deprives us of drinking water."

Apprehensive that sewage might be seeping in to their locality's pipeline, they demanded of the KWSB managing director and chief engineer to direct the concerned officials to investigate why filthy water was being supplied and rectify the fault, or else water-borne diseases might break out in their locality in an epidemic form.

They also demanded of the city Nazim and the KWSB managing director to ensure that residents of the affected houses are provided water through tankers as long as the lingering issue of contaminated water is not resolved as they cannot afford to buy private tankers.
