DADU, June 23: The district council here on Wednesday passed a unanimous resolution against the administration of the Dadu Civil Hospital for not providing medicines to patients during surgery.

The resolution was tabled by Abdul Ghaffar Khero who said that doctors were forcing the patients to purchase medicines at the time of operation. He said that it was an old practice in the hospital, which was adding to miseries of poor patients.

District Naib Nazim Zahid Hussain Jatoi said that a big portion of health budget of the district government had been allocated to the hospital for medicines but the patients were not getting benefit of it.

Qazi Mushtaq Mahesar tabled another resolution, saying that the irrigation officials were not providing water to the farmers of the Mehar and Khairpur Nathan Shah talukas as a result they could not have cultivated rice crop during the current season.

He said that the banks of the Rice Canal had not been repaired since 1932 and there was an acute water shortage in it. Nisar Ahmed Shaikh, Imamzadi Shaikh, Naima Baloch and Mohammad Khan Chhajro supported the resolution and appealed to the Sindh government to take notice of the matter and ensure judicious water supply to the growers.

Mohammad Usman Jamali presented yet another resolution, stating that the district council's property worth billions of rupees - including plots, farmland, shopping centres and rest houses - had been occupied by influential persons and there was no accountability of officials responsible for collecting taxes and rents.

Ms Baloch supported the resolution and said that land mafia had occupied agricultural land, shopping centres and shops of the district council in Jamshoro and they were not paying rents/taxes.

Sikandar Khan pointed out that the banks of Nai Gaj had not been repaired after last monsoon and the irrigation officials had embezzled money allocated for the repair work.
