KHAIRPUR: Bandit killed

KHAIRPUR, June 20: A bandit was killed and his brother was injured in an encounter with police and villagers near Khuhra, Gambat taluka, on Sunday. Police said the bandit, Hassu Narejo, and his brother, Sikiladho, were going to kutcha area from the Redhar village, near Khuhra, when the Gambat police, on a tip-off, and villagers challenged them.

In an exchange of fire, the bandit, wanted in several cases of kidnapping and robbery, was killed and his brother was injured. The body was taken to the Khuhra police post. However, there are also reports that Hassu had an enmity with another bandit, Jhari Narejo, whose group killed him.

ACCIDENT: One person was killed and seven others were injured when a pickup overturned after hitting a donkey-cart in Kumb on Saturday evening. The name of the deceased could not be ascertained. The injured, including Noor Mohammad Shaikh, Noor Mohammad Bhambhro, Mohan Meghwar and Mumtaz Shaikh, were admitted to Kumb and Khairpur hospitals.

TELEPHONE: Several telephone subscribers held a demonstration outside the local press club on Friday to protest against the indifference of the inquiry number staff. They complained that subscribers were being neglected as inquiry No193 was not being attended.
