KARACHI, June 15: Police picked up the father of the alleged suicide bomber and kept him in illegal detention in the Orangi Police Station for the last two days, it is learnt.

Police claimed that Zeeshan Ali tried to blow up the Orangi Police Station. As he was about to enter the police station, the police attempted to frisk him on which he fled and the bomb went off and he suffered injuries.

The police claim was contested by Dr Rehan Ali Shaikh, father of Zeeshan, who was providing free education in four schools. Dr Shaikh was picked up from the Jinnah hospital when he came there to inquire about the health of his son. "I was shocked to know about the allegations levelled on my son.

My son cannot be involved in this act and the police deliberately implicated him and destroyed his future," he remarked. Talking to Dawn, he said that he was confined to the police station and was not being allowed to leave.

"I have even not been allowed to sleep for the past two days. My spleen has enlarged and if I don't sleep, my condition will deteriorate. This kind of torture and humiliating questions are being put on me since I have been detained," he said.

When contacted Orangi Town Police Officer Rasheed Khan, he said, "We have not detained anyone in this case. I called his father to police station for questioning. He met me in the morning and again in the evening (on Tuesday). He is not detained," the TPO added.

He said, "We have not yet initiated interrogation from Zeeshan as the doctors have not allowed us to do so." Dr Shaikh claimed that the police were insisting him to call his wife to the police station.

His wife told Dawn that the police were asking her to come to police station, but, she refused on which the police officials came to her house on Tuesday. Zeeshan Ali, 18, was injured in a grenade blast when he was going to Orangi Police Station on June 13.

According to him, he was going to lodge a report about missing of an identity card when he hit some hard object, which exploded. He said some policemen standing at the entrance of the police station came to him and started beating him.

"They were beating me and accusing me of attacking the police station. I have nothing to do with that bomb. It's totally a baseless allegation," Zeeshan asserted. On June 15, Zeeshan Ali was remanded to police custody in an attempt to suicide attack case by Judge Arshad Noor Khan of ATC till June 22, adds PPI.

Investigation officer requested the court for police remand stating that the accused was hospitalized in injured condition and was not in a position to move.
