ATTOCK, June 13: The authorities of Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC), Kamra, have unearthed an embezzlement and irregularities at the PAC's commissary (welfare shop) and terminated the services of its manager and assistant manager, sources told Dawn.

Other serious irregularities were also detected in the commissary's affairs, the sources said. The sources disclosed that the security officials had raided the house of Mr Saeed, the PAC commissary's (welfare shop) manager at Kamra Cantonment, and recovered a large quantity of bags of sugar, flour, ghee and other commodities, which he had made away from the shop from time to time.

The PAC authorities on the report of the security department removed the commissary's manager and have appointed Dost Mohammad as new manager. Assistant Manager Zameer Hussain was also removed from his post for not informing the PAC management despite knowing the illegal activities of his manager, the sources said.

The accused had been involved in the illegal activities for the last two years, causing million of rupees loss to the complex. The manager with the connivance of his high-ups had implicated many innocent customers (mostly low-paid employees of the aeronautical complex) in the false pilferage cases during their visits to the commissary to cover up his crime.

The sources also revealed that the accused used to purchase commodities from the traders and suppliers against handsome commission and rejected the items and products of those who refused to pay the commission on the pretext of "low quality" and "substandard".

Interestingly, the PAC authorities took lenient view, as they did not report the matter to the local police for legal proceedings against the accused, the sources added.

When this reporter contacted the security officer of PAC, Kamra, he admitted that the incident took place, but refused to give any details about the case. The PAC's public relations officer, Flight Lieutenant Abdul Aziz, when contacted, was also reluctant to offer his comments under one pretext or the other, and said that he was not in a position to offer his comments in this regard.

POWER SUPPLY: Iesco authorities have failed to provide uninterrupted power supply to its consumers during the hot weather. The entire district remained without electricity for four hours on Saturday night. Power remained suspended from 12 midnight till 4am.
