KARACHI, June 9: Over 100 houses in PECHS (Block 6) near 'E' market have been getting contaminated water for the last two weeks. Residents of the affected houses complained that although a large number of housing units , starting from 107-E in Block 6, are being supplied contaminated water, having bad odour, the KWSB officials have not yet taken measures to rectify the situation despite a number of complaints lodged with them.

Attributing the cause of contaminated water to illegal water connections being provided by the KWSB officials of Jamshed Town, they said that the officials were charging a heavy amount for providing illegal connections to commercial concerns from their supply line.

HIGH-RISES: Water supply position on Tuesday further aggravated in various parts of the city, especially where multi-storey buildings are built, owing to frequent power breakdowns and fluctuation.

Residents of the affected localities deplored that water scarcity, along with unannounced load-shedding by KESC, had made their lives miserable in the current hot and humid weather.

"We have been experiencing acute water shortage since the advent of summer season, mostly because of the KWSB's ineffective water distribution system and occasionally due to power failures and low voltage problem," a resident of a multi-storey building in Gulistan-i-Jauhar's Block 17, regretted.

KWSB sources said that sometimes they (people) get scant water supply owing to frequent changes in water supply schedule by the officials at water trunk main division and sometimes because of recurring power failures and low voltage.

Water usually could not reach the overhead tanks in high-rises owing either to non-availability of electricity or low voltage, they added. Sources that residents of Gulistan-i-Jauhar and Gulshan-i-Iqbal, were the worst-affected.
